The Special Collections are situated in the centre of Amsterdam, at Oude Turfmarkt. The zoological and botanical collections can be found in the Artis Library, near the Zoo, at Plantage Middenlaan.

The Reading Rooms are closed on 1 January, Good Friday (30 March), Easter Sunday and Easter Monday (1 and 2 April), King’s Day (27 April), Ascension Day and the day after (10 and 11 May), Whitsun and Whit Monday (20 and 21 May), and from Christmas to New Year’s Day (24 December – 1 January).

The exhibition is closed on 1 January, King’s Day (27 April), and Christmas Day (25 December). The exhibition is open, however, on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whitsun and Whit Monday, and Boxing Day.
