Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012

Award-winning cookery books presented to the University of Amsterdam

18 February 2013

During the first ‘Gala van het Kookboek’ on 18 January, the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012 collection was presented by Edouard Cointreau jr. to the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam. The collection consists of more than 400 cookery books and books on drink from ninety countries, that were sent in for the competition, of which many have won awards. They were on display during a three-day exhibition at the Special Collections.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards have been organised since 1995 by founder and president Edouard Cointreau. In the first few years the winners were announced during the Frankfurter Buchmesse, but the prizes subsequently have been presented in different countries. Since 2010 the award ceremonies have been held at the same time as the Paris Cookbook Fair.

For the 2012 contest, more than 8000 books from 162 countries were entered by authors, publishers and readers from all over the world and of these, 283 books from 71 countries were nominated for a prize in December 2011. The prizes for the fifty winning books were awarded in March 2012 in the Les Folies Bergère theater in Paris. Among the successful Dutch entries were 'De Banketbakker' by Cees Holtkamp (Uitgeverij De Kookboekhandel) and 'Koken met kruidnoten' (Uitgeverij Loopvis)
