City atlases, generally known as ‘stedenboeken’ (city books) in Dutch, comprise a separate genre. They consist, either largely or wholly, of city plans and cityscapes.
In addition, they often contain descriptive texts of the cities depicted. This image archive contains a selection of atlases in their entirety. If desired, the images of maps and plates can also be accessed directly by using the alphabetical indexes of geographical names. For each atlas or each part of an atlas, the maps can be opened using separate indexes. What’s more, a separate index for all atlases provides access per city, enabling all of the maps and plates of this city that have been included in this selection of atlases to be found together.
