Digitisation with Google has begun

Books temporarily unavailable

9 January 2015

Until 2017 ca 100,000 older books from the UvA library collections will temporarily be unavailable because of digitisation by Google. Not all at once, but in batches. It concerns books from before 1874 on which copyright has expired and which were published either in Dutch or in the Netherlands.

Afterwards all books will become freely available online via Delpher and Google Books. Thus the University of Amsterdam (UvA) joins the successful cooperation between the National Library (KB) and Google.

How will it affect library users?

In the UvA catalogue and in CataloguePlus these titles will be marked as not available, with the expected return date. The books will be out of circulation for about 5 months.

Staff at the library desks can help you find alternatives. If you have any questions, you can also contact UBAcoach.
